Amazon has announced that it is hosting an event for its Ring devices, services and products on Wednesday at 12:00 ET / 5:00 PM BST on Wednesday, September 28 (2 AM AEST, September 29).
We will be covering all news from the Amazon event on our blog live so you can hear about what’s being announced as it happens.
The event does not come out of nowhere. Amazon often organizes a product launch at this time each year, with similar announcements appearing in 2020 and 2021. Based on its story, we can expect the retail giant to reveal new entries in its best line of smart speakers – Amazon Echo – and from it called Ring We imagine we will see the new best video doorbell or the best home security camera.
It can also give us some tips on the types of offers to expect in October during the Prime Early Access sale (read: Prime Day 2) – with an event that is the precursor to its Black Friday 2022 sale. If Amazon announces the new Echo Dot ( for example), we’ll likely see older models get a big discount during the upcoming sale.
So what do we think will be announced?
Expect the expected
Amazon hasn’t made it clear what it will be showing off, but we can guess.
At last year’s Amazon 2021 event, we saw the entire lineup of the Echo Show refreshed – along with the Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen), Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) and Amazon Echo Show 15. Likewise this year we expect that we’ll get new Echo announcements, but for the more traditional smart speakers.
Amazon Echo (2020) and Amazon Echo Dot (2020) are definitely new models. These replaced their predecessors after just a year, so some new versions are already a year behind, depending on how you think about it.
Plus, as we’ve seen before, Amazon usually makes some kind of Echo announcement at these events, so the new Echo and Echo Dot make a lot of sense.
In addition to the Echo, we’ll likely get an announcement about the Ring as well, with Amazon mentioning the Ring describing what its September 28 event entails.
Ring has quite a few products that haven’t been updated in a long time, so we can see a lot of products from the security company owned by Amazon.
And while we haven’t heard any information about the launch of Blink so far, it’s quite possible Amazon other The security company will also come with updated products.
Alternatively, Amazon may surprise us all with a brand new device like Echo, Ring or Blink, but we just have to wait and see. There weren’t really any leaks or clues to get us anywhere.
One more (crazy) thing …
In addition to the more common device announcements, Amazon also loves showcasing weirder products at these events.
At the lower end of the scale, we’ll likely see him launch a new, crazy enclosure for his Echo smart speakers – matching Mickey Mouse and The case of Grog (opens in a new tab) We already have. Most likely, this booth would be compatible with every new Echo device Amazon announces, and will likely be tied to another Disney property – though it could also be inspired by one of Prime Video’s best shows like Rings of Power.
We may also get an update to Astro, the adorable little robot that Amazon wants to act as our home’s assistant and security guard, but that disappeared shortly after the announcement.
After launch, the only thing we heard was an allegedly leaked internal document warning that the Astro is dangerous and accident-prone – something Amazon has denied in a statement to us. Perhaps Amazon will want to spend some time at this year’s event to remind us of Astro, inform us of its development and ensure the robot is not a minor threat.
But all this is only our best guess, so to really know what Amazon is announcing, be sure to watch our live coverage of the event and our reviews when we have the opportunity to try out new products for ourselves.
